Presets

A "preset" defines how a stream looks like and what multimedia parts it has. You can select from a list of predefined presets, create new ones or import presets created by other people. You can easily change the shows appearance by changing the preset.

All users in your stream see the same preset.

To select a preset from the preset list, just double-click on one of the demo presets in the "Preset Selection" dialog (If the dialog is not shown, you can right-click in the window and click on the "Presets" option). The appearance of the stream´s window changes immedeately. Some presets contain the the DJ-Mixer, which allows to stream music.

You can create your own presets, which is useful for...
  • saving your stream´s appearance. After restarting your stream, a doubleclick is enough to restore the appearance.

  • the creation of extravagant streams like quiz games, multiple, surveys etc.

  • to prepare eLearning sessions with a lot of different foils.

Tools window

You can close the Tools window whenever you want. To restore it, rightclick the stream´s window. If a menu opens, select [ShowTools].

"Preset Selection"- und "Design Tool"-Mode
After the stream´s start, the Tools window is in "Preset Selection"-Mode. In this mode You only can doubleclick stored presets. To create presets, click[Design Tool].

Try different presets by doubleclicking them and swap between "Design Tool"- and Easy "Preset Selection"-Mode. In "Design Tool"-Mode, some of the objects (buttons, chatboxes etc.) change their appearance. This signals, that they now can be edited.

Please click now some of those objects. The green boarder shows you, that an object is selected. You can move objects by dragging them arround the stream´s window. By clicking and holding the boarder you can change their size. If you click objects while holding the [CTRL]-Key on your keyboard, you can select more than object at a time.

If you rightclick the stream´s window in "Design Tool"-Mode, a menu opens. It offers all the possibilities of the Tools window.

Try to manipulate the current preset by moving and resizing some of the objects. With this you already created your first own preset. Now you have different possibilities:

Save a Preset
First you have to enter the preset´s name in the Tools window, e.g. "MyPreset". Then click the save button (black disk). The preset is now listed. You can easily restore it by doubleclicking it. If the preset´s name already exits, you will be asked, whether you want to overwrite the "old" preset.

Load a Preset
Just doubleclick a preset to load it.

Delete a Preset
First select the preset you like to delete by clicking it. Then press the delete button (red X). Now you will be asked to confirm this action. Please recognize: Deleting a preset does not change the stream´s window.

!!! Hint: To rename a preset, you first laod it, then save it under a new name and finally delete the old preset.

Delete all Presets
To delete all existing presets, select [Preset]->[Delete All] in the Tools window menu. You will be asked, to confirm this action.

Create a new preset
To empty the stream´s window, select [Preset]->[New] in
the tools window menu. You will be asked whether you are sure. After confiring you can start to build up a new preset.

Exporting presets to a file
To save all presets into a file select [Preset]->[Export to File].
Now enter the file´s target name. What can you do with a preset file? Well, you can use it to move your presets from one PC to another one. Or you can realize a backup of your presets.

Import presets from a file
Select [Preset]->[Import Presets] to import a preset file. A
window opens, where you can enter or search the preset file.

URL Import from Presets
Presets may be loaded by usage of URL. Please select in menu [Preset]->[Import from URL]:

A new window appears for input of URL:

Please enter the URL from preset. The download starts automatically and the preset will be added to your local presets. If you select option
Keep synchronized the preset will be updated each time if you load the preset.

Restore original presets
If you have overwritten the original demo presets and you now want to restore this presets, select [Preset]->[RestoreDefaults].

Background pictures
Each stream has a background. If you do not select a picture as background, the background is white. If you like to use a picture as background, there are two possibilities, how the picture can be loaded. As file from your harddisk or via a URL. The background can be changed even during a stream!

Background via URL
Click the yellow folder with the blue earth. Now you are asked to enter a URL to your background picture. Enter e.g. www.flatcast.com/de/i/bkfc.jpg.

The new background picture is now shown. If you made a mistake entering the URL, a white background is shown. Maybe you ask yourself now, how to get the URL of a picture, you found in the internet. This is easy: Surf to a page, which contains the picture. Now righclick the picture and select [Properties]. A window opens, which contains the URL.

Background from file
Click the yellow folder in the Tools window. Now a window opens, which helps you to select the file you want to use. Once you´ve done that, the picture will be transmitted to the viewers. The bigger the picture is, the longer it takes to transmit it. To prevent from to long loading times, the picture´s size is limited to 100 KB.

Clear background
To clear the background click the rubber gum in the Tools window.

Lock/Unlock
Also in "Design Tool"-Mode it is possible to prevent objects from being moved. Use the Lock button (little red key) to lock/unlock the preset.

Takeover of a stream
It is possible to swap the producer PC during a running stream. This is useful, if e.g. more than one DJ run a stream from different locations. Conditions for a takeover are:

  • the stream has been created under a user, which is accessible by all DJs

  • all DJs use the same stream

  • DJs who use a router/firewall have a fixed mapping for UDP port 40123 to the sending PC

Now DJ1, who holds the stream selects [Options]->[Allow Take Over]. This marks the stream ready for a takeover. Now DJ2, who did the same login as DJ1, starts the same stream. DJ1 gets the message that the stream has been taken over.

Objects

Each stream consists a background and a series of objects arranged over the background. If you make a radio stream you use different objects than if you are going to make an eLearning stream. Now you will learn all about objects, the different types and their settings.

Audio

Rightclick the stream window and select from the menu [Insert]->[Audio]. You get an audio bar and a blue window opens, the DJ-Mixer. Move the audio bar to your favorite position, by draging it while the left mouse button is pressed. Change the bar´s size, by holding the green boarder. Click now the DJ-Mixer´s [Add] button and select a view audio file to play. The DJ-Mixer plays file by file. Is one file
done, a crossfade to the next file is generated. The audio bar show´s the current volume.

Before loking closer to the DJ-Mixer´s possibilities, we examine the audio settings.

Quality
Please rightclick the audiobar and select [Audio]->[Quality].
You get a list of all supported qualities. Higher values result in a better audio quality for your listeners. If your focus is to make a radio stream, you always should take the highest possible audio quality. If you want also a transmission of video or your desktop (eLearning) it is better to save bandwidth by selecting a smaller audio quality. With 16 kbps you get a good quality for voice transmission. With 8 kbps voice is still understandable but the signal has a lot of distotion.

Stereo
If you selected a quality above 16 kbps, you have the option to transmit stereo or mono. Rightclick the audio bar and select [Audio]->[Stereo].

Design
The audio bar´s design can be changed. Righclick the audio bar and select [Audio]->[Design]. Tryout all possible designs.

Threshold
Rightclick the audio bar and select [Audio]->[Threshold]. Now audio transmission is stopped, when the audio signal´s volume is close to zero. This prevents from transmitting silence or plain noise. Especially if you transmit voice, this helps to save a lot of bandwidth. High quality audio hardware increases the bandwidth savings even more.

Hide the audio bar
Rightclick the audio bar and select [Audio]->[Visible] to hide/show the audio bar. You can realize your own audio bars using the
picture object.

Mute Button
Rightclick the audio bar and select [Audio]->[Mute Button].
In the stream´s window appears a grey box. The box is moveable and sizeable like any other object. The part the box covers becomes a mute button. Your listeners can stop/restart audio by clicking the place where you moved the box to.
Move now the box above the audio bar and click the Lock button (little red key). The grey box disappeared, but if you move the mouse pointer over the audio bar, it becomes a hand. If you click the audio bar, the audio transmission is stopped. If you click again, it is restarted. Click again the Lock button.

Delete audio
Rightclick the audio bar and select [Audio]->[Remove] to remove audio from your stream.

Switch on/off the DJ-Mixer
Rightclick the audio bar and select [Audio]->[DJ-Mixer] to switch on/off the DJ-Mixer. If you want to transmit e.g. only your voice, recorded by a microphone, you do not need the DJ-Mixer. If you switch off the DJ-Mixer, you also can use another audio player. In this case you need to route the audio signal played by your external player to the audio in. You can do this with the windows media mixer.

Audio In
Rightclick the audio bar and select [Audio]. On the menu´s bottom you find a list of all installed audio in devices. Select the one you want to use.
Recorded and transmitted is all, which is routed vie the Windows Media Mixer
to this device. If the DJ-Mixer is started, the signal is only transmitted, while [Talk Over] is pressed.

DJ-Mixer

The DJ-Mixer helps you to make a professional radio program. It helps:

  • to play audio files (.mp3, .wav, etc.)

  • to create crossfades between wave files

  • to talk over the playing music

Lets start with the playing of wave files.

Insert audio files
Click [Add]. A window opens, which helps you to select one or more audio files. Confirm your selection by clicking [Ok]. The audio files are now listed in the DJ-Mixer. This list is called playlist.
You can also add audio files to your playlist using drag & drop. If you drop a path, all subdirectories are scanned and all audio files found are added to the playlist.

Click [Cycle] to switch cycle playing on/off. If cycle playing is switched on, a played audio file is moved to the end of the playlist.

Random playlist order
Click [Rnd] to get a random playlist order.

Skip current audio file
Click [Skip] to stop the playing of the current audio file and to start the playing of the next file. A crossfade is generated by the DJ-Mixer.

Pause
Click [Pause], to pause the playing of the playlist. The current audio file is faded out. After you clicked [Pause] again, the playing is started with the next file of the playlist.

Pause after song
Click [Pause After Song] to switch automatically to pause, after the current audio file is finished.

Talk Over
If you hold down the [Talk over] button, different things are done:

  • the volume is lowered

  • the recorded wave of the audio in is mixed above the currently played audio file

This helps you to create a professional presentation. The audio file´s volume is set by the scroll bar below the [Talk Over] button.

Kompressor/Limiter
On the right hand side of the DJ-Mixer you find a scrollbar for the compressor/limiter. If you move it up, you increase the volume and vice versa. If you move it to far upwards, you get distortion. The point, where distortion starts depends very much on the audio file.
Use the scrollbar to get a constant volume during you radio stream.

Open and Safe Chat

In general, there are two different ways how the chat control works: ... "Safe Mode" und "Open Mode"

In "Safe Mode" the producer (sender) has full control over who is allowed to chat, and he can block anybody if he wants.
In "Open Mode", every user starts with full chat write access. Important: New Users are identified by their nickname!

Icons in the head of the chat user window
show the current chat state. Just right-click on these icons, and a menu

appears, where the chat settings are shown and can be changed.

The chat state (open / safe) is stored locally on your PC, so the show will come up with the same setting you had last time.

2. User chat status

Every user can have 4 different chat states: , , ,

  • , means: the user has full chat rights, he can chat freely without any restriction.
  • : the user can only do a private chat with the moderator, but not with other users. He does not see any chat except the private communication with the moderator. The other user do not see anything from this user (only the name appears in the user list, but this also depends on the "Block Names" setting, see below).
  • : like , but now the private chat with the moderator is closed, too.

, means many chat rights, very restricted, and means: totally blocked.

Left mouse click (on or ) increases the rights of the user, while right-mouse click restricts them.

Note: the is only possible for registered (underlined) user.

Note also that the user state is independant from the Open / safe chat state (described in 1.)

3. Take-Over

After take over, the chat is in the state of the new producer (either open or safe). However, the user chat states

are the same as before the take-over.

4. What is the difference between Open and Safe Chat?

This mainly affects new users which enter the stream (or log in or change the nick name).

4.1. "Safe Mode"

A anonymus user (guest number, temporary nick) enters the show. The user gets a
and is allowed only to do a private chat with the moderator, which then can decide to put the user in the chat room (left-click on the user icon) or throw him out (right-click).

A registered user enters the stream, or an anonymous one logs in.

If this user name has a from previous visits, then he can immediately enter the chat without any restriction.
If this user name has a from previous visits, then he is blocked from the chat permanently.
In every other case he will be treated like a anonymous user, and the moderator can let him enter or throw him out.

4.2. "Open Mode"

The new user can always enter the chat, except if this user (i.e. the registered user name) has a from previous visists.

5. Restart of the stream

The and are kept, even when the stream has been finished and is

restarted some time later.

Chatcontrol-Window

All chat settings can be controlled in the chat-control window. The chat control opens when you click on the icons at the top of the userlist: (Chat-Control Icons)

Then, the chat control menu opens:

  • Open/Safe Chat: same as with version 5. With "Open Chat" every new user is allowed to chat immediately. If

"Safe Chat" is selected, the producer must individually grant chat rights to each new user.

  • Guest Mode
